CALYX, designed 1991, relaunched 2024.

Inspired by Brancusi Bird in Space

I designed a pared back form, where the shade would flow into the stem, to create a simple unfettered form.

A slimline with soft curves.

Calyx definition is a whirl of leaves, in this relaunch, the shade is a twirl lampshade parchment secured by brass chicago screw.

A slim G9 lampholder encased in a brass holder.

dimmable G9 LED capsule lamp included, current 500 lumens approx equivalent to the old 50watt incandescent.

Braided flex and inline switch.

CALYX MEDIUM stem painted in French Grey with red Bole base.

Hand turned in farmed poplar in Norfolk.

Handpainted, sanded back and a coat of natural beeswax as a natural protective shield and adds a slight sheen.

Base can be painted, or gilded.

Water gilding;

Gesso is made up to a traditional recipe, 3-4 layers applied, dried and then sanded back. A layer of the appropiate colour bole is applied, this is then dried , and polished to receive the gold or silver leaf.

Lampshade is a whirl of parchment bonded to PVC, makes this a sturdy material.
