Inspired by a shield of light.

Looking at early Etruscan sculptures, the simplicity pared back shapes.

I have been water guiding and the bole applied before water gilding, is polished to receive the gold or silver leaf, the amount of polish will result in the shine of the leaf.

This bole looked so beautiful when polished, here in a red oxide, that I have waxed the surface to protect and also enhance the sheen.

The surface has been left slightly textured.

The materials - curved wood.

A pared back simple form emerges, in a warm terracotta colour.

The shield is hand curved and then carved, the edges then sanded back to a feather edge.
